Born and raised on the South side of Chicago, TJ is a lifelong Chicagoan who believes in the long-term investment and growth of the city. After completing community college at Harold Washington, TJ enlisted in the Marine Corps and saw deployments overseas to Afghanistan and Jordan. After returning home from the Marines, TJ got a job in law enforcement and also re-enlisted back into the military part-time with the Army Reserves, eventually retiring from the military in 2024.
In 2022, TJ was able to utilize his VA loan to get him into his first house hack in Logan Square. He turned his first house hack into a live-in rehab, remodeling two of his units in his free time, all while working full-time. As a new landlord, TJ has overcome some of the challenges Chicago investors face: property tax hikes, the permit process, and tenant turnover.
In the midst of his first rehab, TJ was already hungry for his next deal. His second house hack was an off-market Bridgeport property that took months of negotiation. After closing, TJ jumped right into a three-unit gut rehab that turned into a home-run BRRRR in a rapidly changing market.
Through these large projects, TJ found a new love in life: real estate! With that in mind, he earned his real estate broker’s license, hoping to be able to share his first-hand knowledge with other house hackers getting started in their investment journeys.
In his free time TJ enjoys spending time with his pets, Sphinxie & Lucy, and checking out new restaurants and bars with his girlfriend, Sam. TJ also enjoys planning week long hiking trips in the Pacific Northwest whenever he can take a vacation!
