Jazmyn Gunter

Jazmyn is a Chicago suburb native. Born and raised in Bolingbrook IL, she started dancing at Dance Dimension dance studio at the age of three, learning core styles like; Tap, Ballet and Jazz. She quickly became interested in many other styles, including Modern and Hip Hop. Jazmyn attended two Joel Hall Jazz camps where she was exposed to many opportunities. She was hand picked, winning an award to take class at the Joel Hall studio in Chicago.

Soon after that, she became apart of the Douglas Park dance group being exposed to more Hip Hop and Modern style dances. When she was fifteen she auditioned for the Jr. Company for One World Dance Theatre, but the director was so impressed she requested that she audition for the adult company. She was successful! This is where she learned her Latin Rhythms like, Samba, Salsa, Argentinian Tango and even African.

She performed many times locally, including the collaborative showcase held at the Atheneum Theatre, Dance Chicago. During this time she was exposed to dance Convention; Monsters of Hip Hop, where she again won an award for paid classes at the famous Debbie Reynolds dance studio in Los Angeles. By the age of seventeen she was dancing in a Hip Hop dance group, Pure Renditionz which gave her even more experience performing on a stage, collaborating with other groups and dancing for local Chicago artists like Jai Wil and Eandre. She attended Ball State University, majoring in Dance Theater and also Columbia College Chicago majoring in Dance.

During these years she was able to focus and perfect her technique giving her control over her movements, making them more fluid, giving her sharpness and strength. Shortly after attending Columbia she was exposed to Zumba. Haven taken only a few Zumba classes she then decided to become certified to teach Zumba. She quickly fell in love with not only the rhythms but also the energy that is exchanged during each class. She could see how amazing it made people feel! She loved being able to give people that freeing feeling even if it was just for an hour a day. She has attended Zumba Convention 2017 where she was then certified in Basic 2, then shortly received her Pro Skills Certificate. She incorporates all of her dance background into her classes while sticking to the Zumba formula.

Her goal is to spread love through Zumba, bringing people from all backgrounds and experiences together, in a happy healthy environment while becoming physically fit.
