Our History

Kale is the middle name of founder Nick Patterson's grandfather Sol Kale, who started a small uniform company back in 1951 (Kale Uniforms) and grew it into one of the largest suppliers to the Chicago Police, Postal and Fire departments in the country.

Kale which is short for the old family name, Kaluzna, has long roots in the South Loop neighborhood. Nick's Great-Grandfather had a tailor shop at 1250 S. Jefferson back in 1921. While, in 2006 the city honored Sol with a street name right on the corner of Roosevelt and Jefferson for 84 years of continued support for the community. We are proud to call 548 W. Roosevelt home!
